An exquisite railway experience in Poland

Now that I can travel freely, it's like a portal has been opened before me. One that I can pass through with ease. On a whim, I sat one day wondering, where do I have friends in Poland? hmmm..I do have someone in Białystok. I've heard there's more snow there than in Warsaw. I'd rather have a new experience of a different view than what I'm usually used to. Let's buzz her and see if I can visit her. Voila! My friend accepted my request and the next minute I was booking my tickets online. PKP intercity has never let me down.

The possibility that one can just buy a ticket online for a really reasonable price and go wherever one pleases is just the perfect recipe for a traveler. The trains are punctual most of the time. Mine was delayed 15 minutes. But the delay isn't something I've experienced often with the Polish rail service.

The suspension - so smooth. The silence - so quiet inside. Heaven. Such heaven. Is this for real?! The leg rest and the leg space. My my my! The feeling was like I was in an airplane... just way more comfortable.

Poland has for long been critiqued as a country still stuck in communist ways. While that might hold true in many areas, I feel blessed to witness its progress. It’s transportation for one is absolutely noteworthy. The man and woman over the PA system in the train sound so pleasant. More so than in airplanes. It makes the experience just so beautiful.

What strikes me most is that such a remarkable service is available to the average citizen. A feast for the eyes to watch snow-capped trees and homes. Every time I looked out the window I felt enchanted. Like I was moving through a fantasy land. Snow delicately layered over the bare branches on the trees. Shades of brown green and white merged into each other as I watched in wonder stretches of forest land that have still been preserved. Can human language really do justice in describing the magic that nature beholds?

It thrills me to wonder where is my next destination.

  1. I agree. Even a short travel could be inspiring. In a plane or train I offen have new ideas.
